At first, puppies need to relieve themselves as soon as they wake up, after each meal and several times during the day. It’s not always possible to take them outside, so it’s a good idea to teach them where to go to relieve themselves in the house if they need to do so. 1. Place the puppy pad on the floor, plastic-side down, away from the puppy’s food and bed. 2. Lift the puppy on to the pad and let him sniff the pad and take his time. 3. When the puppy relieves himself on the pad, give him plenty of praise and a treat. 4. If your puppy has an “accident” away from the pad, do not tell him off – just lift him on to the pad right away. This will help the puppy to understand the right place for weeing. 5. When your puppy knows how to go to the pad, gradually move the pad closer to the door, and eventually, place it outside.
